PUREBRED MUTTS LIVE!! | CATS CRADLE

Cat’s Cradle Back Room in Carrboro hosted an epic lineup of folk, country, and bluegrass music including Chris Chism, the Sugaree String Society, and headliner of the night, the Purebred Mutts! A solid fan base and number of first timers enjoyed the kindred and down-home vibe of these talented musicians!

The show commenced with a performance by Chris Chism, a solo artist with more than enough heart and soul to fill the stage. Playing the banjo and guitar, Chris sang original songs best described as stories put to music; these sojourns into the heart of everyman, with themes of heartbreak, struggle, and the fruits of life, resonated with the audience, as did Chris’ humble nature and powerful voice.

Next up to the stage was the bluegrass duo, the Sugaree String Society, starring partners Jodi Jones and Brendan Macie. Darling and down-to-earth, Jodi led the sometimes trio, tonight with the help of Nick Tutwiler, through a set of truly bluegrass songs, taking us back to love, land, legacy, and even some old time clogging!

And last, but certainly not least, Purebred Mutts took the stage! Self-described as bluegrass-folk-jam-Ish, Purebred Mutts live up to their name–original and fun meets familiar and enjoyable! It was their first time playing at the Back Room at Cat’s Cradle, and I can honestly say I’ve never heard anything like them and hope to see them live again. They played a mix of originals and covers, the former of which included an amazing version of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness”. At the end of the show, Sugaree String Society joined them on stage for an epic send off, bringing to a close this excellent show!

Check out all of the artist’s social media pages and where to catch them next–you’d be hard-pressed to spend a more invigorating and enjoyable evening anywhere else!
